New Bike Lanes in Burnt Oak?

If you hadn't realized it by now, the Burnt Oak neighborhood has among the highest levels of "bike to work" commuters in the city. According to the most recent data available (a poll conducted by a high school junior in 1994) biking and interest in biking is shooting up like a rocket, and by 2004 everyone should be riding gravity bikes on the walls while listening to future music on portable laser disk players.

With that in mind, Burnt Oak's own Lonny Tibideaux is speaking to the city about adding bike lanes to Burnt Oak streets. Lonny's been biking to and from the Finnish Pastry shop he manages every day for ten years, and he says he's tired of dodging cars, people, dogs, and the ropes that go from the dogs to the people. Leashes. His initial plan, to build an elaborate "bikeway" located fifty feet above the streets of Burnt Oak and powered by ranch, was dismissed by city officials as unfeasible. So now he's asking for bike-only lanes on Engert Avenue and Franklin Street stretching all the way to North Gordon. It will make for a faster, safer commutes for not only Lonny but all the bike commuting residents of Burnt Oak that work in the same pastry shop he does or at the gas station next door.

The bike lanes are said to be "under considz" by city officials.
